A Hidden Treasure of Andalusia

Between desert and oasis, Alhama de Almería is a village where time flows to the rhythm of thermal springs and age-old traditions.

The church of San Nicolás de Bari and white alleys of Alhama de Almería

Perched on the foothills of the Sierra de Gádor, this village of white stone and ochre earth is far more than a stop on the Andalusian route. It is an invitation to slow down, to breathe air laden with history, to feel beneath your feet the same cobblestones that Romans walked two thousand years ago.

Here, thermal springs have gushed at 46°C for millennia. The narrow alleyways still bear the imprint of the Arab layout. Mornings smell of jasmine and fresh bread, evenings echo with the clink of fino glasses at the plaza bars. Alhama isn't visited — it's lived.

Balneario San Nicolás

Alhama's thermal waters have sprung from the foot of Cerro Vilano since antiquity. Recognised for their therapeutic properties since Roman times, they now feed the Balneario San Nicolás, inaugurated in 1877 and recently renovated.

The water emerges at a constant temperature of 46°C, rich in minerals. It's the ideal place to recharge after a hike in the Sierra, or simply to savour a moment of absolute calm.
