From wellness to adventure,
it all starts here.

Alhama de Almería sits in the Andarax valley, between the Sierra de Gádor and the Tabernas Desert. From here set out mountain trails, thermal baths and trips to the desert and the coast of Cabo de Gata.

Wellness and Thermal Spas

The legendary Balneario
San Nicolás

The very name of the village recalls it: "Alhama" comes from Arabic and refers to the thermal waters. The springs rise at the foot of the Sierra de Gádor, and the present-day spa was built in 1877. The thermal pool keeps the water at 46 degrees all year round, soothing for the joints and breathing, and perfect for simply switching off.

Thermal circuits, Turkish baths and massages complete the visit. Fifteen minutes from the capital, it is a good base for combining mountain, desert and coast within a 25-kilometre radius.

Thrills and Adventures

The desert at our doorstep

A quarter of an hour's drive away is the Tabernas Desert, the only true desert in continental Europe: 280 km² of badlands where more than 300 films have been shot.

Buggy and 4×4 Tours

A 4x4, buggy or quad tour is the most direct way to explore the dry riverbeds and ravines of the desert. With a guide you reach the formations that served as a backdrop to Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy and to more recent shoots; in 2020 the European Film Academy declared this landscape a "Treasure of European Film Culture".

Thrills and a real escape, fifteen minutes from Alhama.
