Alhama is a great starting point for walking: pine forests, historic irrigation channels and viewpoints over the valley. A selection of hikes for all levels.

Before you set off

Are there routes for beginners?

Yes. "Los Barranquillos" (PR-A 359), easy and well signposted, starts from the village of Alhama itself: ideal for a first taste of the sierra.

What is the most demanding route?

The "Monterrey trail" (PR-A 35), a loop of about 9 km with 700 m of ascent, near Laujar. For walkers in good physical shape only.

When is the best time to walk?

Spring and autumn. In summer, set off early and avoid the middle of the day: some stretches have little shade.

What should you bring?

Plenty of water, suitable footwear and sun protection. Distances, ascents and times are approximate: check the forecast before setting out.
