Where you can touch both sierras at once: Las Canales de Padules
Natural Monument
Over roughly two kilometres, the river has carved a gorge separating the two ranges, with waterfalls, crystal-clear pools, rounded rocks and lush vegetation. The site is a protected natural area, listed as a Natural Monument.
The PR-A 360 trail links Almócita, Los Canales, Padules and Beires. It passes through the Los Canjorros gorge, a passage so narrow that one person can touch the Sierra de Gádor and the Sierra Nevada at the same time.

Four walks to explore the valley
From the old hydroelectric canal to the viewpoints of the Sierra de Gádor, four ways to walk the comarca.

Laujar de Andarax
The Senda de la Hidroeléctrica
A waymarked trail (PR-A 36) that leaves from the El Nacimiento recreation area and follows the canal that once carried water to the valley’s old power station, now a restaurant. Just over four kilometres among pines, with two tunnels cut through the rock and the Chillo bridge, a former aqueduct; the way back runs along a forest track or the Monterrey path.

From Canjáyar to Terque
The Middle Andarax Valley
The central stretch of the valley, where the river links Canjáyar, Rágol, Instinción, Bentarique and Terque village by village, among orange groves and old grape trellises. This is the land of the uva del barco, the table grape that for almost two centuries was shipped from Almería across the world; in Terque, a provincial museum keeps that memory alive, with a heritage trellis by the river.

Fondón · north face
The Sierra de Gádor trails
The Alpujarra side of the sierra is walked from Fondón, which maintains three officially waymarked trails. The PR-A 203 climbs through the Chaparral and comes back down along the Acequia del Lugar; the PR-A 373 reaches the Púlpito viewpoint, at around 1,460 metres, a balcony over the valley facing the north face of the Sierra Nevada.

Laujar de Andarax
The Laujar waterfalls
Just upstream from the village, at the El Nacimiento site, the newborn Andarax tumbles down in waterfalls and pools beneath the trees, next to a recreation area with picnic tables and barbecues. Several paths set out from there and follow the river upstream, with a waterfall a short detour off the trail.
