The reserve
Wildlife from three continents
Opened in June 1997, the zoological reserve at Mini Hollywood is home to over 800 animals from around 200 species, spread across wide enclosures among more than 4,000 trees in the heart of the Tabernas desert. Its themed zones —the African savanna, the Okavango river ecosystem and the desert oasis— recreate natural habitats for wildlife from three continents.
The reserve is a member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums) since 2008 and of AIZA (Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums). It takes part in European Endangered Species Programmes (EEP), European Studbooks (ESB) and Taxon Advisory Groups (TAG), and collaborates on research with the University of Murcia for the conservation and breeding of endangered species.
