Los Genoveses

62 km from Alhama

A bay of just over a kilometre of golden sand, with dunes and prickly pears and not a single building. Part of "Lawrence of Arabia" was filmed here.

Los Genoveses is a wide bay of nearly a kilometre of fine, golden sand, backed by dunes, prickly pears and agaves, in an undeveloped valley with no paved roads. It is one of the great unspoilt beaches of the park, with calm, shallow waters.

It owes its name to the Genoese fleet that anchored in this bay in 1147 to support the Christian troops in the capture of Almería; ever since, the city’s flag has matched that of Genoa. Its golden dunes served as desert on screen: sequences of "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) were filmed here.
