The river road
This route swaps westerns for history. From Pechina, the buggy follows stretches of the old way known as the camino romano, the road that for centuries connected the inland areas to the Almería coast. Harvests, ore and travellers passed this way long before asphalt existed.
The highlight is the Andarax river crossing and the stop by its historic walled bridge, a stone witness of the old alignment. It is the most approachable route in the catalogue: stable terrain, stretches where you can pick up speed and vega scenery — perfect for a first time at the wheel of a buggy.

The valley river
Crossing the Andarax
The Andarax runs down from the Sierra Nevada and dies in the Mediterranean after watering the whole valley that gives the comarca its name. Like any south-eastern river, it swings between near-dry spells and sudden floods: its wide, stony bed is this route's playground, forded with the guide leading.
The vega and its orchards
From desert to green
On both sides of the river, irrigation channels inherited from Andalusi times still share the water among orange trees, vine trellises and vegetable plots. The contrast is the great spectacle of the lower Andarax: near-lunar arid slopes plunging into an intensely green valley floor.
A thousand years by the road
The road bridge
A historic bridge of walled masonry marks where the old way crosses the river: the photo stop of the route.
Bayyana, the mother of Almería
Near Pechina flourished in the 9th century Bayyana, the port city that preceded Almería. Its vega is still watered by irrigation channels inherited from that age.
The Andarax vega
Orange groves, vine trellises and dirt tracks between the river and the arid slopes: the contrast that defines the valley, from desert to green.
