Sun & Togetherness

Feria del Mediodía

Almería's daytime fair, on the Paseo and the central squares.

The Atmosphere

The joy of living in broad daylight

The Feria de Almería has two faces. By night, the bustle moves to the Recinto Ferial of the Vega de Acá; by day, the party belongs to the centre. Each fair midday, the Paseo de Almería and the surrounding squares fill with people coming out for an aperitif, and the whole city seems to gather in the street.

The driving force is the ambigús, those fair bars that the City Council authorises at central spots such as the Puerta de Purchena, the Paseo itself or the Plaza de la Virgen del Mar. They serve wine, beer and tapas at fair prices, live music plays and, as soon as a guitar strikes up, sevillanas break out on any corner.

The fair is held in late August, in honour of the Virgen del Mar, patron saint of Almería. During those days, the midday slot is the most relaxed and family-friendly: the one that best sums up Almería's hospitality, before the afternoon drifts into the tardeo and the night.
