Lime
Still marginal in the province, the lime shows up on a few farms in southern Spain. The Tahiti lime — oval, smooth and nearly seedless — is its best-documented reference.
The lime remains a niche crop in Almería. A trade publication documents its expansion across several selected farms in southern Spain, notably in Seville and Almería, but no recent administrative statistics isolate a provincial area or tonnage. This page therefore tells of a coastal agronomic possibility — not a major production basin.
The most solid morphological reference is the Tahiti or Persian lime, Citrus latifolia: a medium-to-small, ellipsoidal fruit with thin, smooth skin, generally seedless, with yellowish-green flesh. At full ripeness the fruit turns yellow, though it is usually sold green. The Mexican or Key lime is smaller and more aromatic, but its exact footprint in the province is not quantified.
Almería does have a very real citrus sector, which makes trialling new Citrus plausible along the mild-wintered strip. The honest portrait is one of small harvests and a handful of farms — fruit in uneven shades of green, far from any industrial lime orchard.
