Where it comes from

Campohermoso (Níjar)

The nochebueno is a sweet found in only one place. It is made by the La Gracia de Dios bakery on Calle San Joaquín in Campohermoso (Níjar), mostly from oil, sugar and flour, recreated some thirty years ago from an old Christmas sweet of local Gitano families. The detail that makes it one of a kind: it can be ordered with the initials of the family patriarch drawn into the dough.

The house is about fifty years old — founded by Miguel García Salvador and run today by his two daughters — and tells the sweet's story the way you tell your own. If you pass through Campohermoso in December, it is the chance to take home a sweet with a name on it.
