Apicultura J. El Barranquero

Apicultura J. El Barranquero is a beekeeping family in Félix, in the Sierra de Gádor, four generations and over a hundred years of love for bees. It was founded by José "el Barranquero" and Gabriela, who lends her name to the "Miel de la abuela Gabriela" brand. The hives sit between 850 and 1,300 metres, and the honey is filtered once and never heated: it reaches the jar as it leaves the comb.

There is wildflower honey of albaida, thyme, broom and rosemary, single-flower albaida, orange-blossom, thyme and eucalyptus honeys, honeycomb, honey sweets and syrup. Some single-flower honeys sell out between harvests: if you are after one in particular, don't leave it late in the year.

The online shop ships to your door (the half-kilo wildflower jar is €4.90) and there are partner stockists; to buy at the farm, best call ahead.
