Extra-virgin olive oil rosquillas de Alhama from a family bakery that has been firing the oven since 1860, five generations on.
Panadería El Túnel has been baking bread and sweets in Alhama since 1860. Five generations have worked the bakery, now run by brothers Antonio and Cristóbal López with their mother. Bread still comes out every day, but it is the rosquillas, added some thirty-five years ago, that have carried the name across the provinces of Almería and Granada.
On the counter, extra-virgin olive oil rosquillas de Alhama sit beside anise, wine and orange roscos, white-chocolate-coated rosquillas, magdalenas, brazo de gitano and tortas de manteca. In January comes the roscón de Reyes. The bakery belongs to the provincial Sabores Almería brand and has long taken part in Alhama's Feria de la Rosquilla.
Open Monday to Saturday from six in the morning. Rosquillas are available all year and travel well, so take a bag home.
