Oven-baked Coast

Puff pastry filled with cream and finished with meringue, a close relative of the millefeuille. A speciality of the Capri, Hernández and La Guinda confiterías in the capital, on the counter all year round.

Where it comes from

Almería city

The glaseado is recognised in layers: puff pastry that crunches, cream that refreshes and a meringue finish, like a millefeuille that decided to end on a high note. That is how the Confitería Capri defined it in 2014, and that is how it remains on the capital's counters, all year, waiting for no fiesta.

It is one of the specialities of three of the city's emblematic houses — Capri, Hernández and La Guinda — and it has close family: the tubos de nata and the hojaldres also count among the province's desserts. With a mid-afternoon coffee, it is one of those sweets that explain why Almería's confiterías keep their regulars.
