Where it comes from

Almería city

The pan griego is a thin, flat, elongated torta — also called coca de anís — whose charm is on top: cinnamon and sugar the oven leaves caramelised over a dough of flour, milk, oil, yeast, sugar, salt and aniseed. A simple sweet, more flatbread than bun, crisp at the edges and fragrant with aniseed.

The Confitería Capri, in the capital, put it forward in 2014 among its sweets of Almerian identity, and it is the house where to find it. Of the name's origin there is no reliable explanation, and we would rather not invent one: what is known about the pan griego fits in these lines, and what is not gets settled by ordering one.
