The house where John Lennon stayed during a shoot in Almería, now a museum about films made in the province. Guided visit for three euros, booked by phone.

In 1966, John Lennon spent six weeks in Almería filming How I Won the War. He stayed in a manor house on the edge of town, the Cortijo Romero, and there — according to the version that stuck — he began writing Strawberry Fields Forever. That house is now the Casa del Cine.

The museum tells the story of Almería’s relationship with cinema, which is far from incidental: the province has been the set for hundreds of films, from spaghetti westerns to major international productions.

The guided visit costs €3 and is booked by phone. For a teenager who does not walk into museums willingly, the film-and-music combination usually does the job.
