Antonio de Torres was born in Almería in 1817 and is, without exaggeration, the man who gave the Spanish guitar the shape it has today: he settled the body size, the fingerboard width and the fan bracing that every maker still uses. The museum named after him tells that story.
It works well with children from about eight or nine because it is not a museum of glass cases: there are modules for understanding how a soundbox sounds and how an instrument is built, piece by piece.
Full admission is €3, with a reduced rate of €2 for under-18s and free entry below age 6. Guided tours run on Friday evenings and Sunday middays, capped at thirty people.
